Hometown: Monterey Peninsula (Marina, to be exact)
First concert (who and where): Oh man…that would be Don Ho at the long-since-demolished Circle Star Theater in San Carlos. I was 5 years old and barely remember the show. I do remember women running up to the stage, tossing lingerie, trying to grab him and kiss him. I think I slept through most of it…screaming women and all.
Favorite food: (OK, favorite food right now): Anything found in Rainbow Grocery’s baked-goods section. I’m in love with the vegan cookies and pastries. Seriously. I want to be Mrs. Vegan Pastry.
Name one tune that’s in “Recently played” on your iPod:
The Avett Brothers – “The Ballad Of Love And Hate”
Last book read:
You Shall Know Our Velocity by Dave Eggers
Last movie seen: On the big screen: ”Pirates – At World’s End”. I don’t get out to the movies much and actually, my nieces convinced me to go to this one. On DVD: “Old Acquaintance” from 1943. I love Bette Davis films and this one is fantastic.
Current hobby: Riding my bike anywhere and everywhere. Recently, I’ve been enjoying the waterfront from AT&T ballpark to Aquatic Park. Beautiful ride.
Favorite childhood memory about your mother or father: My parents have been married for 49 years bless ‘em. The one I remember right off the bat is from my sister’s wedding. At the wedding reception, my mom and dad danced a slow dance (I’d never seen them dance together, mind you. I was 6.) It was the most romantic moment between the two of them that I’d ever witnessed.
What makes you laugh? “Young Frankenstein” from the opening titles to the closing credits will guarantee laughter from me.
Cats or dogs? Don’t own either, but am dreaming of having a puppy some day soon. I am a dog person, hands down.
What celebrity crushes did you have as a teenager? Ralph Macchio circa “Eight is Enough” NOT “Karate Kid”. I loved Rick Springfield and I was a total Durannie (Duran Duran fan to you pre or post 80s folks). I’ve just given away my age with this question, I think.
Latest accomplishment: Completing my laundry.
Anyone who knows me knows I abhor this chore. I’d rather buy more clothes.
Why I do what I do: It’s a dream come true that has become so much a part of me…I don’t think I could be happy doing anything else. I have ALWAYS, since I was a little girl, wanted to be on the radio, playing music for other people’s enjoyment. Always.
There are cassette tapes buried somewhere deep within the confines of the home I grew up in of me “playing dj” and announcing songs with my “dj voice”. Some girls played with Barbies. I played with a cassette recorder and made my Barbie dolls watch me “play dj”.
