60% of Parents Are Losing Sleep Because of This

A new survey found that 60% of parents are so stressed about the back-to-school season that they’re losing sleep.

Of the 2,000 parents of kids ages 5-18, 57% said it is the most stressful time of the year for them.

The top worries of most parents are:

  1. Whether their child will have good teachers.
  2. Whether their child eats healthy foods at school.
  3. The cost of buying school supplies.
  4. Their child’s safety at school.
  5. Whether their child will make friends at school.

So what can you do about it?

To ease some of your concerns, here are some things you can do.

  1. Cut the teacher some slack. You might have heard about a strict teacher or one that gives too much homework. Don’t worry about it yet. People can, previous parents might have overreacted. Just give the teacher the benefit of the doubt right now.
  2. Have a chat with your child about how to eat better. Show them how to make a healthy meal if they have to choose for themselves at school. Don’t forget to practice what you preach and give them a healthy meal at home.
  3. Do the back-to-school shopping in stages: You’re only going to stress yourself out if you try to do it all at once. Relax and take your time.
  4. Learn about your child’s school safety and emergency procedures. There is so much we can’t control, but you can control how much info you and your child have. Learn about exits and the best way to get off-campus. Talk about these with your child and make sure they know what to do in an emergency.
  5. Help them develop good social skills. Treat your friends, neighbors, and family members with respect. Kids are sponges and will copy how you act. If you’re worried about them making friends, enroll them in an after school program or activity outside of school.
