Beginning in 2020, military veterans in California won’t have to pay adoption fees at animal shelters throughout the state.
This is all under Senate Bill 245 which states a companion animal could be beneficial to veterans struggling with PTSD. Senate Bill 245 was introduced by Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamodn Bar) and was signed by Gov. Newsom. The bill passed 76-0 out of the State Assembly and 37-0 out of the State Senate.
California’s existing veteran driver’s license can be used starting January 1st to confirm eligibility.
