Christmas Tree Clean Up in SF

By 965koit on December 10, 2019

Christmas is still on the way, but I know that I always like to be prepared.

So what can you do with that tree after Christmas?

According to SF Environment, leave clean, unflocked trees next to your bins on your regular service day between Wednesday, January 2 through Friday, January 11, 2020. If you missed your collection date, please contact Recology by calling (415) 330-1300.

Make sure to remove all tinsel, decorations, plastic bags, stands, and lights. If your tree measures more than 6 feet tall, you need to cut it in half before putting it on the curb.

What happens to the trees once Recology picks them up?

According to PickYourOwnChristmasTree.org, the trees are chipped and made into a mulch which is provided for free to our community.

REMEMBER: Never burn your Christmas tree in a fireplace or woodstove. Burning the tree may contribute to creosote buildup and could cause a chimney fire.
