Hiking Adventures

As a native Texan, I’ve never been hiking. We don’t have many mountains to climb in the Lone Star State so when one of my friends wanted to get outside I assumed we were just going on an adventure to one of the parks around the area. In a way, I wasn’t wrong. I just wished I had prepared a little more for this hiking adventure.
We had no idea where the day was going to take us. We started off wandering around the city then found ourselves in Sausalito.
I haven’t been able to do much exploring since moving here and this was the first weekend I actually got out of the city. It was such a beautiful area! We explored for a bit then made our way to Bulina’s Ridge.
Now when I say I wasn’t prepared I definitely mean it. I was in a tank, jeans and Sperry’s. Not exactly hiking attire, but was still quite the experience.
As you can see, I was not a fan at first. I kept slipping because I am a very clumsy person and my shoes had no traction, but in the end the view was breath taking!
Just when I thought my hiking adventure was about to be over, it was decided we needed to climb to the top of Mount Tamalpais.
One thing that needs to be noted about me is that I’m very short. I’m also proud of that because I’m terrified of heights so I’m not sure what I would do if I was taller. Climbing to the the tip top of Mount Tamalpais didn’t sound like the best idea for clumsy and scared Karina. Luckily, I have some pretty amazing friends who kept me motivated the entire climb.
Honestly, after reaching the top I felt like I accomplished something. I overcame a huge fear and was rewarded with an amazing sunset.
I learned a few things while on our adventure.
- Always be prepared for a random hike.
- You can do anything you set your mind to.
- Hiking is actually very fun. 10/10 would recommend and do again.
Now that I’ve lived the hiking life, I can’t wait to do it again (hopefully, more prepared next time).
What are some of your favorite areas to hike around the bay?
