I Miss You Comic-Con!

This time of the year always make me sad. It’s San Diego Comic-Con season and once again I’m not going. That’s ok though because I went back in 2013 and some people don’t even get to do that. It was everything I dreamed it would be and more! As a self appointed nerd there is nothing as exciting as being around others who have the same passions that you do. Being a Superman and Star Wars fanatic is the norm at Comic-Con. Everyone saw the latest movie, has a theory about the next big movie and definitely love discussing all these things at length.

So although I’m not going again this year, and probably won’t ever again, I have my memories. Walking into the big hall and seeing every one dressed as their favorite hero is an experience that is hard to describe. It makes you want to stretch out your arms and shout “My People!” at the top of your lungs. I know this sounds like a big ad for Comic-con but it’s not. They aren’t paying me to talk about the experience or anything I’m just excited. You couldn’t go now even if you wanted too, it’s been sold out for months.

The great news though is that a lot of cities have their own Comic-Cons now! I will attend those occasionally and some day I’ll take Lilly to her first one. The small ones are still great and it still gives you that feeling of being with others like you. In fact, a lot of people say that the smaller ones are more like old Comic-Con when it was mostly about comics. Now with all the big companies trying to get your money, it’s more like stepping into a television ad than it is a comic book convention. So going to the local ones can be more fun and less hectic. I’ve been to the San Francisco Comic-con a couple times and it gives me the fix I need.

Maybe in honor of the start of Comic-con I’ll put on my Superman cape and fly around the house for a bit. Now that Lilly has her own cape we can start a tradition! One day I’ll get Kristen to wear one and we can be a family of Superheroes.
