“It’s A Wonderful Life” The Opera!

By 965koit on November 19, 2018

On Friday KOIT launched it’s 24/7 Christmas music which immediately gets you in the mood for the holidays. Then I went and watched “It’s A Wonderful Life” performed by the San Francisco Opera at the War Memorial Opera House on Saturday. It’s one of those Christmas classics that everyone watches every year and this was a cool new twist on it. I’d never actually seen the movie before so I had no idea what the story was about until Saturday.

The set for this opera was unlike any other set I have seen at any of the operas I’ve been to over the last 2 years. It moved and interacted with the characters, angels were flying in the air and using projections the scenery could change immediately. Another thing that stood out about this opera was that it was the first I had ever seen that was sung in English. They did a really good job of telling the story of George Bailey and how his life has affected so many people without him noticing. A good message to send to the world.

The War Memorial Opera house was decorated for the holidays and looked as beautiful as ever and you can “earn your wings” while you’re there as well. This was our last opera of the season and we can’t wait until next year to see what operas they have in store for us.
