Hansel & Gretel is my new favorite opera

Our last opera show of the year was by far my favorite show of 2019. From the amazing costume design and the magical sets, this was unlike any opera we have seen. It was sung in English which is always a nice surprise for me. I can spend more time watching the show than reading the subtitles at the top of the stage.

It was the perfect date night for Kristen and I. We had the babysitter come a little early so that we could go to dinner beforehand, then it was off to the War Memorial Opera House. We were immediately taken in by the singing, dancing and playfulness of Hansel and Gretel. A couple of kids that don’t want to listen to their mom. How weird right?

Then we are in the magical forest with fairies and familiar fairy tale faces. All ending in dramatic opera fashion. Before the show I didn’t really know the story of Hansel and Gretel. Seeing it told in this fashion made the story even more amazing.
