Recently in San Francisco a pair of great horned owls landed in the Presidio and took over a red-tailed hawk nest! Ecologists already had a webcam set up to watch the hawks. The Great Horned Owls are difficult to view in the wild and the chicks are expected to hatch this week!
The red-tailed hawks have back up nests and the ecologists are watching them too.
The great horned owl is one of the most common owls in North America, but its population is in decline.
