Shawn Mendes’ ACL Festival Performance Blew Me Away

By 965koit on October 16, 2018

Every October a music festival takes place in Austin, TX that draws a crowd as diverse as the Bay Area. This festival is called Austin City Limits Festival or ACL Fest for short. You can see hundreds of performers over three days on eight stages. Performers this year included Paul McCartney, ODESZA, Bazzi, Khalid, Elle King, and Shawn Mendes among many others.

I’ve attended this festival for three years straight, and I’ve never had a performer surprise me as much as Shawn Mendes did.

First off, Shawn Mendes drew a huge crowd. It was a Sunday afternoon/early evening and his crowd was one of the biggest yet. There was no age limit in the crowd. It was a nice mix of young and old. I’m serious I saw a few toddlers and 80-year-olds in the crowd. It was nice to see his music bring this crowd together.

Shawn is definitely an entertainer. He jumped off the stage and ran through the crowd of thousands of people while he sang and posed for pictures with fans. The security guards definitely did not expect that to happen. You could tell they were caught off guard just as the rest of the crowd was.

Even though he only had an eleven song set, he used his time wisely interacting with the crowd and singing the hits. He started off with “Holding Me Back” and finished his hour long set with “Treat You Better.”

Shawn Mendes was probably the best performer I got to see at ACL Fest. I knew I was a fan, but never knew I’d grow to be this big of a fan. Honestly, I just want to thank whoever broke Shawn’s heart because if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have such beautiful ballads from him.

Next time Shawn comes to the Bay, you’ll need to grab the kids and go see him. Word on the street is our sister station, 99.7 Now, is hosting Poptopia in December and he’s on the bill! You can get all those details here.
