The Best Way To Cool Off When We Were Kids

Grandfather uses a garden hose to spray water on his grandkids during a big water fight in a back yard. It is summer and the sun shines.

Let’s all take a second and remember our childhoods. Summertime was so much fun. We were out of school and free to play outside with our friends/siblings. Things were so much easier back then, right?

Now with all this technology around us, it’s rare I see kids enjoying the little things in life. The other day, I got home from work and noticed my neighbors Jenni, her husband Andrew and their little boy outside playing. Even though it was extremely hot outside and we do have AC in our units they were making the most of their day. They grabbed the waterhose from the garage and had their little boy running through the water like it was a sprinkler system. It was so adorable to see his face with such excitement. He saw me, ran up to me and gave me a huge hug. He was drenched, but let’s be honest, it was refreshing. Not just feeling the cold water, but seeing a kid playing outside with his family. It took me back to being a kid in the strong Texas heat and running through my parents’ sprinkler system with my little brother. It was the fun thing to do. We didn’t have a pool at my house or a public pool in my city so we made do with what we had.

Did you have a favorite way to cool off in the heat when you were a kid? Was it the sprinkler system? Waterhose? Water balloon fight? Maybe you have a memory you want to share. Let’s all get away from the craziness of the world and remember the good parts of our childhoods for a split second.
