Tips On How To Stay Cool On Hot Days

By 965koit on August 13, 2019

With the temperature recently being out of control we realized that we need some way too cool down the baby room for baby Lilly. Before it was just us and we just dealt with the heat my wining about it until we fell asleep. Now we have a baby and have to actually do something to solve this problem. What I found out quickly is that it is pretty difficult to keep a room under 75 degrees without an air conditioner. So I hit Target and grabbed a window unit that we can stick in Lilly’s room to at least cool down her space. Even then it took a long time to cool the room down and the system is running on full blast the whole time, which is loud. We are still working some other solutions so I thought I’d share some tips and tricks I found while scouring the internet for a few hours in my boxers laying on the tile floor.

STAY HYDRATED

This is the most important thing you can do. Drink a ton of cold water! Stay away from soda or sugary drinks because they decrease the ability for your body to store water. Yes even the sugar-free ones. Even if you aren’t thirsty you should always have a cold water in your hand.

CLOSE YOUR BLINDS

It might be your first instinct to open the windows and pull up the blinds but, if you keep the blinds down your the house can stay up to 20 degrees cooler. To make it even better you can invest in black out curtains to help keep even more heat out.

SET YOUR CEILING FANS COUNTER-CLOCKWISE

I didn’t even realize that ceiling fans had 2 different settings. In the Summer you are supposed to switch them into counter clockwise to create a wind chill affect that will keep you cooler.

PLACE YOUR FAN FACING OUT OF THE WINDOW

That feeling of the cool fan hitting your face during a hot day can be an amazing relief. Another trick would be taking your box fan and placing it so that it blows the air out of the window. By doing that it will suck out the hot air in the house and blow it outside.

COOK OUTSIDE OR MAKE A SALAD

Don’t use your oven or stove! It will make your house even hotter. Try grillin outside or eating something that doesn’t require heat to eat.

BUY A WINDOW AC OR SWAMP COOLER

I did some research on both and decided that the window AC was out best best. If you don’t know the difference ( I had no idea what a swamp cooler actually did) then you can check out this video I watched to help me decide.

Hope these tips help, stay cool out there! If anything, go somewhere with AC like a library or grocery store. Or do what we did and sit in your car with the AC blasting until you cool down.
