Yesterday, I was slammed.
I got up at 3:30 am and headed to work. I finally left work around 11:30 am, but when I got home I had to grab Lilly to take her to a class at the gym at 12:30 pm. After we came home, I put her down for a nap. I had about an hour break before she was up. Then it was dinner, playtime, bathtime, storytime and finally bedtime. She is normally in bed by 6 pm, but last night she was a little stinker, so she didn’t fall asleep until 7 pm.
Lilly’s mom also goes to bed at 7 pm.
But I stayed up for an extra hour just to relax before I went to bed.
Something became abundantly clear when I heard the alarm this morning.
I need more time.
I’m in the middle of editing my first book, I want to start working out, I need to write and post more blog posts, I could interact more on my Positive Parenting Posse Facebook page, I would like to start helping other radio stations with projects, and I also need to clean, cook, and bake more.
But where does someone find the time?
There are articles out there that give suggestions like; hire a cleaner, delegate more, and stop answering emails after 5 pm. BUT COME ON! This is real life! A cleaner is expensive and would take one look at my place and quit. Who am I supposed to delegate to? My cats don’t make great chefs. And if I don’t answer my emails, I might miss out on an opportunity to grow my business or my radio show.
A creeping thought was starting to grow in the back of my brain.
Maybe I’m the only one who is struggling with this.
So I went to my facebook group and asked the question:
The comments started pouring in and you know what I realized?
ALL MOMS NEED MORE TIME!
We need extra time so we can sleep, workout, work on our side projects, and just give ourselves some self-care!
So if you’re a mom that feels alone and frazzled, you’re. not. alone. We are all struggling to survive and get by.
Why do we do this to ourselves?
It’s because we love our children and family. We do it because they need us right now. We don’t want to miss a single giggle or smile. We want to be there in case they say “momma” for the first time or learn a new skill. We give everything to our kids because we WANT to, but sometimes that leaves very little time for ourselves.
I know it’s hard, but every once in a while, step away for a second. Take a few extra minutes in the bathroom, play on your phone while the little one sleeps, and listen to that podcast while you push them in the stroller.
We have to find time to do something for ourselves or we can’t be the best for our family.
