When you go out in public with your baby there is one guaranteed thing that will happen. That baby is going to go to the bathroom before you get home. As a dad when your baby needs to be changed there is no where to take them for privacy. Most men’s restrooms don’t have changing tables so you usually have to give them to mom to change. But when mom isn’t with you then your options are the bathroom sink or the floor.
I’m not sure if you have ever been inside a men’s bathroom but it’s disgusting. Even us guys don’t want to spend any more time in there than we have too. So the fact that we have to place our little babies on the urine soaked floor is really upsetting to us. Thankfully one state is taking the initiative.
New York has just updated their building codes requiring “safe and compliant changing tables” to be accessible to both men and women. Which means that they will have to install them in a neutral location or into both gender restrooms. They also have to put up clear signs that point to the closest changing table locations.
This will most likely be something that spreads across the entire US with California following close behind. So moms can rest easy knowing that our brand new baby isn’t being traumatized by going to the store with daddy.
