Ed Sheeran’s New Album Getting Bad Reviews?

If you’re reading this then there is a good chance that you are an Ed Sheeran fan just like me. To hear that he is receiving bad reviews on an album seems odd but it’s what I just witnessed on iTunes. Ed’s new “album” came out on July 12th, but it’s not really an Ed Sheeran Album. It’s called No. 6 Collaborations Project and every song has a guest artist on it. So it’s fair to say that this isn’t a traditional Ed Sheeran album. He went out of his way to collaborate with other artists and see what music they could create together.

If you have been listening to the radio in the last few months you can tell that the first couple singles from his album have been doing well. He has a song with Justin Beiber called “I don’t Care” and another one with Chance the Rapper called “Cross me.” Both songs are in heavy rotation on the radio right now and in my opinion they sound great! They are definitely not traditional Ed but that’s what I like about them. It really feels like he is trying something different and the whole project was probably fun for him as a song writer.

So what’s with the bad reviews? I jumped on iTunes to buy the album and I notice that the rating is 3 stars out of 5. It shocked me to see that so I had to click on the reviews to see what it was all about. They are littered with people saying that there it’s not the traditional Ed Sheeran that they know and that he has too much hip-hop and pop mixed in. One reviewer says “It seems like he’s getting away from what he’s great at. Thoughtful, heartfelt songs. There doesn’t have to be a rap riff in every song, ya know?” To which my audible response was “It’s a collaboration album, what did you expect?”

I’m not sure why people don’t allow there artists to evolve any more. They can’t sound the same forever right? Are you the same person you were in High school? I sure hope not! Another reviewer says “I never liked him in the first place” which is the strangest comment you can read for an album review. You don’t see me scrolling through heavy metal music reviewing all the artists I don’t listen too.

After reading the bad reviews I still bought the album because I actually enjoy change and evolution. Plus I’ve loved every song I’ve heard so far and I know that the rest are going to be just as good. I’m listening to this as I type this blog and I would highly recommend it already. If you like Ed Sheeran and you loved all his albums then you are going to enjoy this. It’s Ed getting to play around and do some different genres, but it’s still Ed Sheeran at the core of it.

Don’t trust the reviews of things, try things for yourself because unhappy people are the ones who make the most noise.
