My jaw dropped when I heard this news, No more Beach Blanket Babylon!

After 45 years, San Francisco’s Beach Blanket Babylon, announced that the show will not go on, after their final performances on December 31, 2019. It’s as much “San Francisco” as the cable cars and Golden Gate Bridge!

“There’s no rhyme or reason, I felt it was time,” said Jo Schuman Silver, the producer of Beach Blanket Babylon. Silver’s husband, the late Steve Silver, opened the show in 1974 for a six-week run. Now, 45 years later, locals and tourists alike, line up on Green Street for a seat to the musical review, which has been seen by more than 6-million people. You better believe this is going to be a hot ticket! No word on what will happen to the elaborate costumes and hats (and BIG hair). Hopefully they’ll put it on display somewhere for all to remember.
