‘Tiz the Season of Giving! What is the “Red Kettle Campaign”?

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in London by William Booth and his wife Catherine as the East London Christian Mission, and can trace its origins to the Blind Beggar  tavern. In 1878 Booth reorganized the mission, becoming its first General and introducing the military structure which has been retained as a matter of tradition. In 1883 the Army came to San Francisco and began taking donations to help the locals using red crab pots along the Wharf. The tradition continues today in the form of the “Red Kettle Campaign” that kicks off right after Thanksgiving. So when you see a bell ringer, please put a little something in their kettle. ALL funds stay here in the Bay Area doing the most good! Join me for the annual Celebrity Bell ringing Dec 6th in Union Square in SF!
