Waives Adoption Fees for Senior Cats & Dogs

In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is hosting a Senior Sweetheart adoption event by waiving adoption fees for cats and dogs aged seven years or older through the entire month of February.

“Adopting an older animal has many benefits, including not having to kitten or puppy proof a home,” said PHS/SPCA’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox.  “A senior animal’s personality is already developed so there won’t be any surprises about temperament.”

Ariel, a 13-year old calico cat is just one of the dozens of senior animals available for adoption at PHS/SPCA.  Ariel is a very sweet and affectionate spayed female who has been waiting at the shelter for more than five months to be adopted.

Adoptable pets are available at PHS/SPCA Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion, 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame. The shelter is open for adoptions 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Potential adopters should arrive at least an hour before closing time to complete an adoption.

“Even though the adoption fees are waived on senior cats and dogs, we will still be following our strict and rigorous adoption processes since we want to make permanent matches,” according to Tarbox.  “We have many loving senior cats and dogs waiting for a new home at our shelter and we hope this adoption event will showcase the benefits of adopting older animals.”
