Why I don’t wear my wedding ring

By 965koit on September 19, 2019

Nick and I have been together for ten years, but today is our four year wedding anniversary.

I felt like reminiscing, so I went through all our old wedding photos. I realized that some of the pictures I had I’ve never shared before, so I thought I would let you into our special day.

Here we go!

First off, we got married at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas. We chose Las Vegas because that’s where Nick grew up. His family still lives there and that’s where we first met. Also, no one wanted to come to a wedding in Northern California. Sad, but true! But when we announced it was in Las Vegas, suddenly everyone’s schedules opened up.

I wore custom Vans that I had painted. Not only did I want to be comfy on my wedding day, but Nick is also shorter than me so I didn’t want to tower over him either!

I didn’t have a traditional flower bouquet. I had an arrangement of colorful butterflies made on Etsy. I wanted to have something that I could have forever, and possibly pass down to Lilly. Butterflies are important to my family because my mom says that seeing one reminds her of her mother, my grandmother, who I never got to meet.

These are our rings! I wanted something antique and unique looking. Nick did a good job 🙂 Although, if you see us in person, we won’t be wearing them. No, we’re not on the rocks. We just both hate wearing rings! It was a huge waste of money, but I’m still glad to have it.

I made every single centerpiece. I got white birdcages and filled them with fairy lights and fake flowers. On the outside, I decorated them with fake butterflies. Seeing a theme here? The Springs Preserve is a museum dedicated to the flora and fauna of the desert, so we wanted to go with a nature theme.

Both of my parents walked me down the aisle. My mom is my best friend and I love her dearly so I wanted her by my side. We didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen so it was a quick trip to the alter. I walked down to an instrumental version of “Let it Be” by the Beatles. They’re one of my favorite bands. I was also VERY blonde and most of my hairdo was clip in hair extensions. I dyed my hair back to brown immediately afterward.

You couldn’t see it from the audience of even this picture, but the sun was RIGHT in Nick’s eyes. I could see his cheek reddening as the ceremony went on. He was so uncomfortable and could barely look at me without a looming threat of burning his retinas! Luckily, we made it a priority to have a ten-minute or less ceremony so we could get to the fun stuff, the party!

Our first dance was to “I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) by the Proclaimers. Although it was the version Haley and Michaels did which was slower. The reason we chose this song was because our careers took us all over the country, but we always found a way to be together. Plus, we are HUGE How I Met Your Mother fans, and this song was an important one in the show. Check it out.

I love cake. I mean, I LOVE cake. But wedding cake always stinks. You get a tiny little slice when you want to just shove your face in it. They’re also ridiculously expensive. Nick and I ditched the cake and brought in an ice cream bar. You could choose from vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry. Then we had a ton of toppings and syrups you could put on top.

Our wedding day was awesome! It was everything I wanted it to be. It was stress-free, relaxing, filled with good food, drinks and family and friends.

I would marry Nick all over again!
