She ran the New York Marathon and breast pumped at the same time

When I first read a headline that Molly Waitz ran the New York Marathon this weekend while breast pumping I had to read more about her.  I am a mother of 2 teenage daughters and when I breast fed them I never even once thought of running a marathon let alone pumping while running a marathon!

Molly pumped about 20 ounces of breast milk during her 26.2 mile run.  Marathon runners run in waves and even though her race didn’t start till 11am she was out at 5am.  She ran with a breast pump backpack on and when she would fill up a bag she would seal it up and put it in the backpack and kept running.  I used to run cross country and track and couldn’t imagine running with something on my back.  I guess you can tell I am pretty amazed about this.  Perhaps many new moms have ran marathons but it’s rare that you hear of a mom pumping at the same time.

She wanted to tell other moms that anything is possible and that she pumped out of necessity in order to run the race.  If you have ever breast fed you know how painful it can get when you are not able to feed or pump.  The pain can sometimes be unbearable!  Kudos once again to Molly for doing an amazing job!

When Molly Waitz ran across the finish line of the New York City Marathon Sunday, she not only had to carry her…
